Illustration: Why People Want Socialized Medicine.

Posted By Guy Smylie | September 22, 2009

Once there was a father who took his daughter to the doctor because she was sick. They waited as everyone does and eventually went in to see the doctor. The doctor did tests and reported back to the father. ‘She needs surgery,’ he said. The father went home and discussed it with her mother. He said, ‘I’m so sad. I can’t bear watching her suffer through the surgery, I will go in her place.’ He explains the situation to the doctor and he allows the father to have the surgery in her place.

The father goes in for the surgery. When he comes out it takes him two weeks to recover and he goes home. The daughter is still sick and getting worse. The father is injured by the pointless procedure.

The daughter received the FREE health care, the father received the QUALITY health care and the surgeon did NO good! The priorities in this scenario are all screwed up and like most problems with health care, the doctors’ advice wasn’t considered!

Just because you care, doesn’t make you a good person. I hear ‘My cousin can’t pay their medical bill and will go bankrupt,’ ‘This lady at work got denied by her insurance for having asthma,’ and ‘this poor family has to go to the Emergency room to get health care!’ I don’t hear this ‘St ___ Hospital didn’t give this person care’ because it doesn’t happen. If it did that would be news in America!

We aren’t talking HEALTH, anymore! This discussion is becoming ’who’s getting rich,’ because we like believing sad stories and have no idea what it takes to run a business.

Patients need a certain quality of health care that the government option will destroy(government officials don’t know you, your doctor does.) The father, in this story, loves his daughter and went through an unnecessary procedure to save himself the pain of watching her suffer. But to survive, his daughter must go through the surgery. Bandages cost money, and a certain amount of money must be spent to get quality health care.

Everyone is so concerned about ‘who’s getting ripped off’ or ’what procedures are unnecessary’ that nobody is focusing on the fact that the United States has the Best Medicine in the World. We need to guarantee that the Quality of our health care won’t suffer or we will ALL suffer!

In the tradition of SD Wingnuts: no links, no real examples, just a made-up story, crafted to defend your worldview from reality. More singing in the shower….

Guy, this must be one of your relatives. So it was like the daughter has, let’s say brain surgery, and the father says, “Oh, I know, operate on MY brain. That will do it!
You Guy, are utterly. completely insane. Great work, keep em coming.

I meant say the daughter has something like a brain tumor and needs surgery, as per your example.

“the United States has the Best Medicine in the World”

    Oh, you haven’t heard?

It’s very hard to prove feelings and you won’t accept facts. So I have to come up with something liberals can relate to fiction based on emotion.

Thanks, Popalot! I can tell by your posts, you get my point. You only see emotion and don’t care about the medicine people need.

I’m sure you’d give examples of better countries.
    - Don’t give me old examples like Switzerland, Mayo has surpassed them.
    - Don’t give me statistics like less people die from medical malpractice in …, ie, you can’t die from malpractice when you can’t charge the government with malpractice.
    - Don’t give me (x)country has the cutting edge in cyst removal, US doctors excel in the majority of medical fields, unless the government gets their hands in the mix!

Is Mayo a country? Comparing to Switzerland? In any case, they have come out in FAVOR of a public option. Doctors are in favor. And the public is. None of this makes any impression on you. You are on the side of big insurance companies and think the sky will fall if anything changes. Whatever. I’ll be back to rub your nose in it as progressives take your country over and you are going to have steam coming out of your ears. Whatcha gonna to do, kill somebody?

65% of Americans want the Public Option and I support it too along with the Majority in this country. This is one essential ingredient in any meaningful healthcare reform bill…the Public Option should not be up for compromise. That is the one thing that the Democrats must stick to supporting or kill healthcare reform all together. Good news is that 25 Blue Dogs in the House are committed to supporting the Public Option.

Popalot, If you don’t know what Mayo is then I can’t waste my time debating you!

Americans don’t support any of this. They realize this is all political and will end up damaging the quality of care they receive.

The “quality of care” makes no difference when you can not afford that quality of care.

People can still receive the “quality of care” when they can’t afford it. So the ‘quality’ is much more important!

You give me a personal example of someone who can’t receive life saving care and I’ll consider your objection. But you don’t have one! Otherwise you’d get why this government plan is worthless.

BS…all that does is continue to put people into bankruptcy and erode our economy. So, you give me a personal example of how that is better. Like I said before the “quality of care” argument is falling on deaf ears when that is not the important issue right. (Besides, even the “quality” issue is up for debate now). Sometimes, I think your arguments are worthless.

People have to ‘file’ for bankruptcy - it’s a choice. Our economy erodes when Americans are controlled more than our government is!

The only “deaf ears” there are belong to people like you!
All our side wants is the government to stay out of our health care decisions! Your options don’t include that!
