Barrack Should Apologize for Racist Comment!
Obama schlepping his Health Plan Wednesday called the Cambridge police officers actions stupid. The officers were responding to a break-in call involving Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. a friend of the Presidents. Gates apparently forgot his keys and was trying to break in his own house. Gates resisted the officers and they arrested him.
When Obama made the comment he acknowledged he didn’t have all the information (which is probably why he thought this was relevant to HR 3200), however he STILL judged that the officers were being racist.
Today, in a press conference, he admitted he spoke too soon and that Gates was probably over reacting. But he didn’t apologize! He, however, explained a different scenario than what was acknowledged Wednesday night.
If Obamas Presidency is supposed to prove we don’t discriminate against minorities anymore; shouldn’t our President admit to evoking racial prejudice, when he didn’t even have all of the facts!
Do Dippies only call for apologies when Bush is President?
Update : The reference link was upadated - and it does agree with the aspect of my story that the President didn’t apologize.
“Obama’s comments today stopped short of the apology called for by police union officials in Cambridge, Massachusetts. “

This is actually great news. The more that Obama blends arrogant elitism with whining and playing the race card, the more people who blindly voted for him will realize what a HUGE mistake they made.

President Obama has a right to his opinion. In his opinion, the arrest of Gates was wrong. I think Gates was angry and escalated the problem, but I’m not sure I would be that nice if someone accused me of breaking into my own home. I think President Obama made a big mistake saying that in front of a national audience when he wants everyone to focus on health care.
It’s funny how Republicans are using incidents like this to stir up racial animosity among their white base. How is that going to play out with trying to attract minorities to vote for Republicans in the next election? It seems like Republicans fail to understand the point of view of a lot of minorities in America. Most African-Americans and Latino-Americans have either had bad experiences with police because of their race or they know someone else who has. So they have a different cultural perspective on situations like the Gates arrest than white Americans do. We’ve come a long way, but the United States is still dealing with racial difficulties.

Baloney.
What this does is have a chilling effect on law enforcement to the detriment of public safety. Does this mean that the police should think twice before they apprehend somebody who appears to be breaking into a house it he supposed perpetrator is black?
Gates is supposed to be a HAH-VAHD elitist, not a guy from the ‘hood, but he acted like one.
And guess what. Most blacks and Hispanics are not going to vote Republican, no matter what.

First, of course law enforcement should arrest people who are trying to break into houses, black or not. The policeman was correct to check out the complaint and ask Gates for ID. But what you’re not supposed to do is arrest someone after they’ve already proved they live in that house.
Second, the white majority in this country doesn’t have many years left before it becomes a minority. Republicans would be smart to try to make inroads in minority groups to try to grab votes from the Democrats. How do you think the next generation of black and Hispanic voters will view the Republican Party when they’re always siding with whites in racial disputes?
But, please, keep on doing what you’re doing. A dwindling Republican Party will makes things easier on us liberals who want to fix the problems in this country.

The problem is, Republicans would have to pander like Democrats to get them…which is a mystery to me. When Republicans look out into a crowd, we see individuals. Democrats count how many minorities, gays, etc. there are. Why wouldn’t blacks, Hispanics and the rest want to be seen as individuals, and not be pigenholed by their ethnicity? I don’t get it. Isn’t that what equality is all about?

Another thing:
You say: “How do you think the next generation of black and Hispanic voters will view the Republican Party when they’re ALWAYS (emphasis mine) siding with whites in racial disputes?
This of course is a ridiculous statement. ALWAYS? And what about those times when the “racial dispute” is aggravated not by the “whites” involved, but the other way around?
And just wondering. Would you consider certain remarks made by Jeremiah Wright to be racist? Or are whites be the only ones who are ALWAYS racist?
This is a far more complicated issue than liberals like to portray it. It is not black and white, pun intended. But it need not be complicated, if people could just try and look past race. Just as no one should be targeted because of their race, they should not get special treatment, either.

On the subject, If the comment was made after he had the facts, he would probably had a leg to stand on. However, not only did he admit to being uninformed, he made it into a race issue. And he admits that it wasn’t a race issue, by his ‘over reacting’ statement.

Thanks for the offer, Mr. Smylie
and for removing the images as you did.
If you would please, pass on the lessons
you have learned here to the others
who post images on your site.
Piracy is frowned upon on the internet,
and in the communications industry
in general, as you no doubt know.
And by the way, my last name is spelled
with just one “m.”
No biggie, just another modest lesson
in consciousness raising and good decorum
for you.
Warm regards,
William C. Fleming

This whole thing was caused by the attitude of the professor. It was instigated when a neighbor acting in good faith tried to prevent a crime from being committed, and the police were simply doing their job. Now I hear on a news conference today that essentially the Cambridge police dept is saying they will use this as a teaching moment. How about using the attitude of the professor instead as a teaching moment for all individuals of all ethnicities how NOT to act when talking to police or to anyone else for that matter? Seems like it is only the white people who have to learn from this. No wonder race relations are strained yet. Obama did fuel this fire and showed his true colors and beliefs in his maybe accidental or maybe on purpose statement. Hopefully people are watching and indeed learning from this “teaching moment.”
