Progressives: Do they have a definition of Progress?

Posted By Guy Smylie | June 5, 2009

It seems progressives always want to stand for the rights of the “underdog”, while not being aware of the choices the “underdog” has. Most of them have no understanding of finance unless it deals with “class”. They have a rotten view of politics when the other “person” is elected and it’s the best thing in the world when their groups are in power. Example would be “all politicians are corrupt” but it doesn’t bother the progressives when our politicians aren’t paying their taxes. To be kind - progressives are hypocrites. To be honest - progressives are liars and cheats.

We have a “Justice” who is sliding ever faster into a Supreme Court seat. She has uttered words that would make the most upstanding ‘White Guy’ get kicked out of the nomination. But she is being pushed through by progressives and their policies. Where is their morality?

President Obama constantly apologizes for American progress, our contributions and even our humanitarian efforts. He lies and puts down everyone in the country. Where is your dignity? Where is your patriotism?

I really feel they have no ability to think. They are either told what to do, what is “best” for them or they have no connection from their ‘heart” to their minds, like most of us do.

So what is progress, Progressives? Government Control, so you can’t make the wrong decision like General Motors. State Church, so no one will think wrong like England has.  Government Controlled Healthcare, so everyone gets free vitamins(because quality health will not happen when quick decisions need to be approved by the government.) All of these cases have one thing in common, giving up control so that a government entity can take away any blame for your decisions. Or maybe it’s just so you can go down to the bar after work.

General Motors should have cut the cord and found new solutions. Bailout was sold as something other than Government taking a majority share. And that’s what happened - some of us even knew better.

England cannot change a persons heart with a national church.

And Nationalized Healthcare is like winning the lottery, everyone you know is going to want some and nobody is going to get what they think they deserve. Everyone knows the government can’t run a program, Social Security for example.

So, before Progressives take another step, they should figure out what they are doing. Come up with a plan that works - for what they are trying to do. And realize they are probably the “class” that they find so vile!

I would be pleased if they could just distinguish Hollywood from reality!

This is one of the most fallacy-ridden opinions I have had the misfortune to read. Where to begin? Paragraph one - unsupported generalizations (”most have no understanding of finance unless it deals with “class”"), ad hominem attacks (”progressives are liars and cheats”), and just sloppy thinking in general.
Paragraph two - Sotomayor “has uttered words that would make the most upstanding ‘White Guy’ get kicked out of the nomination” is just false - Alioto made similar comments. Furthermore, her judicial record shows NO record of bias - in fact, she defended the right to employment of an avowed white racist who was distributing inflammatory literature on the job.
Paragrph three - the link doesn’t support the argument made that Obama lied. Most observers disagree that Obama is apologizing for US progress, accoplishments, humanitarian efforts - that you believe this places your views as outside the mainstream.
Paragraph four - great, more “us” and “them”. Those damn progressives aren’t like us good people.

I could go on, but it ought to be clear that reading Mr. Smylie’s thoughts is a waste of time.

“class” - Then why do progressives support a tax on the rich(and the definition keeps changing.)The majority of Gov’t restrictions are based on earnings not behavior.
“liars and cheats” - Explain the gratitude given to Clinton for having a ‘normal life’ in the White House compaired to the gratitude given to “W” for defending us after 911.
Sotomayor believes her personal experience is more important than the constitution which was written by our representatives(that’s you, Ned.)
Obama lied about his Uncle telling him about the story. Why does he need to lie about something so trivial? Because no one would find out?
Yeah those Progressives don’t take the time to think! What’s so hard about thinking?
