SDEA - More time for lawsuits!

Posted By Guy Smylie | September 16, 2008

The South Dakota Board of Education has just loosened the requirements on class time. The requirement was 146 hrs/subject per school year. Now it is based on test results.

Test results can indicate retention. But they can indicate short-term memory and I’m pretty sure teachers are still watching out for cheaters. Test results shouldn’t be the criteria for an education.

And schools still aren’t funded enough? The Lawsuit against the State of South Dakota for “underfunding” state schools, has been going on for more than 3 weeks. This might throw a wrench in their argument, if they don’t need to spend, so much time on a subject. But the suit hasn’t been about education; and the ‘it’s all about the kids’ card works for everything. Even Soylent Green.
