Tim Johnson’s Really Up on Things!
I received this Letter from Tim Johnson on August 6th, in response to a request to remove restrictions on oil drilling. He sent out a form letter on the subject. This letter is a prime example of why Tim Johnson is not qualified to be a Representative.
OK, other than the conservative insight, like he ignores the fact that oil is more than just an energy source, the price of oil dropped almost $30 /barrel since I wrote to him, this letter is almost 2 weeks old and the increase in wages (i.e.minimum wage) doesn’t effect most Americans; there are REAL election issues here.
At the bottom of the first page it lists the committees he’s on.
Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs - we just had a major bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, a major failure, that cost us an unlimited amount of trouble, and the Banks have not been doing well either.
Energy and Natural Resources - Apparently he’s not looking at our fossil and nuclear fuels as a energy source even with the profuse usage of them throughout the world.
Indian Affairs - It seems that Senator John Thune had more influence on Indian Affairs in the last year than Tim has.
And Appropriations - Is that even a committee? I thought that was the IRS!
Now on the first page Johnson is looking for immediate relief from these oil prices. He states President Bush needs to deplete ourNational Oil Reserves for a Non-emergency? Is that thinking for the future? He also blames speculators for the sudden change in the price of Light Crude. But as oil goes up in price it will also come down just as fast with the speculators doing their job. His answers are restrictions. (I have to admit I’ve heard the same response from John Thune, which doesn’t make it right.) But Tim also, claims the American Oil Companies are making too much money. His elitist attitude excuses the 14% in taxes the government receives while the oil companies profit 8% (which is STILL a taxable income.)
On to page two….
…apparently we’re supposed to increase domestic oil production. We’re supposed to explore and open up the OCS (Outer Continental Shelf) but he sure couldn’t encourage his fellow democrats to vote on releasing the restrictions so these things could happen. But he does address the bio-fuels and the renew-ables to cover his bases back home.
Then, finally, those quick fixes like releasing the Strategic Oil Reserves and regulating Speculators aren’t really quick fixes(or as Tim likes to call them ’silver bullet’s.) Tim’s thinking ahead; it will take TIME to get the prices down. So, depleting our reserves and making it harder for speculators to do their job must be a long range plan too. OR maybe, he just didn’t think that far ahead?
Tim Johnson’s policies are what is ineffective. He can’t persuade people because he follows party lines and breaks from them only to keep the majority of the South Dakotan votes he needs to stay in office. He isn’t thinking of the future of South Dakota because the principles of ecomomics and our needs are not that hard to figure out. He just needs to take the time.
I think he’s had enough time to figure things out. Don’t you?
