Johnson Has Nothing to Defend.
Senator John Thune was asked to comment on Johnsons refusal to debate. He commented that ‘voters ultimately will pick the person they believe is most qualified.’ Why was John Thune supposed to comment on this. Other, than he would be able to point out Johnson is an incumbentwith almost $7 million in campaign funds. The reason is obvious; Johnson can’t debate! And Thune saying that would be seen as an attack. John is a smart man.
There is an old book that says, when you are strong show that you are weak, when you are weak act strong. This is done to be deceptive, so your opponent will become arrogant and careless. On the other hand, it also gives you time to regain your composure. I ask you, does Tim Johnson seem strong or weak?
I see everyone saying he’s a well respected Senator, he’s raised millions more than Joel Dykstra and he’s as sharp as ever! The problem is he isn’t proving any of it. He is being reclusive after his brain hemorrhage and is hiding behind his money and length of time in office. If Johnson has no problems, all he has to do is show us.
I think Johnson is trying to pull a “Dread Pirate Roberts” ala ‘The Princess Bride’ where he will talk up threats and disasters to discourage Joel Dykstra into giving up. BUT when it’s all said and done Senator Johnson policies are weak at best.
On his committees: Energy and Natural Resources - with the regulations on oil production and the promotion of ineffective energy sources the US is seeing record energy prices, all around. Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs - The FannieMae, FredieMac, CountryWideFinancial, Bear Stearns, etc. bailouts aren’t a sign of helpful policies. Appropriations - If Johnson holds any power in this committee, why does the responsibility of the lack of Funding for the Lewis and Clark Project fall on John Thune’s shoulders? Perhaps it’s because John Thune works in Washington and Tim Johnson got more respect from his hospitalization than he had gotten on his own(mainly because of the circumstance of the Democrat control of the Senate.)
Johnson has nothing to defend because he has nothing to offer the people of South Dakota. He is now admitting that debating an opponent will only hurt his campaign. Dykstra NEEDS to get out his policies to the voters. But Tim Johnsons pull out just made Dykstras money go farther.

I can attest personally that Tim Johnson is one of the strongest people either of us will ever know. He’s shown the ability to deal with absolutely devastating adversity and he’s doing so without throwing himself a pity party. When he announced his position on debates, he handled it head on as well. We need that kind of strength and courage in the Senate where it can sometimes be sorely lacking.

I’m glad YOU got to see that side of him. He doesn’t really show it to very many.
We DO need that strength in the Senate, that’s my point.

“…a pity party.” is exactly what his campaign is.

Johnson did what any other person would have done with a devastating injury. His will to live kept him alive and now hopefully recovering. This does not mean he is capable of being our Senator. THE FACT JOHNSON CAN NOT DEBATE PROVES HE IS INCAPABLE OF DOING THE JOB. If the people of So. Dak. are willing to elect someone that can barely speak, is partially paralyzed, can barely walk, Then we deserve to be 50th in everything.

Apparently, Fund raising is an important part of being a good Democrat. How long will the DNC see Senator Johnson as a useful fundraiser? Then where will his campaign funds be?
